STATE MALE BALLET

Men in tights ... and more.

State Male Ballet founder Valeriy Mikhailovski first conceived the idea of an all-male ballet company in 1991 ... the idea being to allow male dancers to explore some of the classical ballet repertoire's legendary female roles, bringing a new physicality to the parts. And to have a little fun as well.

"There is an element of humor, but it's not the main element ... It is very important that out of all the comedy and parody, it should be very professional and stay a real art form of the highest quality."

Since 1992, The Saint Petersburg State Male Ballet has performed on some of the world's most celebrated ballet stages across the globe.
